Week 3 - Software and Hardware

Thanks for a great week of blog posts! I found all of your reviews and posts interesting and highly informative.  Nice job "sprucing" them up a bit with graphics and videos.  Make sure when you are creating your post you click on the "compose" view rather than the "Edit HTML" view on the top right corner of the new post box.  That will make sure you see the buttons to easily insert links, pictures, movies, etc...  This week we'll be exploring chapters 3 & 4 which cover the software and hardware of technology.

I should also point out that one feature blogger has to avoid using too much bandwidth is that if the front page becomes to "big" it automatically cuts off the front page with only 1 or 2 posts.  All the posts are still available you just need to click the "older posts" link at the bottom of the page. I also rearranged the right sidebar to put the list of posts above the comments to make it easier to see all the posts for each week.

Your blog post topic suggestions are available under the assignments link.  Most cover the ISTE  standards for teachers, students, and administrators.  Please post a comment to this post with the topic you would like to cover to avoid duplication.  I would really prefer this week if each post covered a different standard (if you choose questions 1-3) so that hopefully we can cover most of them this week.

Your weekly paper assignment is also available under the assignments link as well as on blackboard.  If you have any questions on either assignment please contact me through email and not through the blackboard messaging system.

I will try and return all the weekly papers & feedback by Sunday evening.  Thanks for sending them all by email this week. If you should have any questions with the class please let me know - it looked like this week was much smoother sailing for almost everyone.

As noted in the Course Welcome note I will be leaving for China this Friday morning.  I do not anticipate having any trouble responding to emails or posting to the blog.  But in case I run into technical difficulties I will post by Thursday the next two weeks of assignments (Week 4 & Week 5).  In the event you do not hear from me from May 27-June 7 I should be returning on June 7 and will respond asap.   The debate tournament I've been asked to run is the 2011 China Open which will have over 60 schools and 300 students competing!

For week 4 we will switch the format of the blog post assignment slightly to focus more on a technology tutorial.  I will ask each student to pick a technology to create a teacher and student tutorial.  You can see some examples from the previous course blog.  Here is the one that I think was done really well on iMovie.  The assignment instructions from last time will also be roughly the same for this course.  More information on this to come.
