Hello everyone!:) I was so excited to learn that we would be blogging our way through this course because I just recently became a blogger on the blogging site tumblr. I stumbled upon the website through other health and fitness blogs and thought it would be fun to start my own. Check it out here if your interested. I just completed my third half marathon in Lincoln on May 1st so a lot of my blog is just me rambling on about running!
For week one I went and explored the other classes site and found a blog that was done really well. Don't Get Caught Up in the Web was a blog done about the validity of information on the internet, evaluating websites, and a few tips on how to cite websites as a reference.
It caught my eye for a number of reason:
- The text was split into small paragraphs, making it easy to read and skim through for important information.
- There were graphics throughout the post. Pictures are always engaging and interesting to look at. They keep the reader interested and engaged in what they are reading.
- The use of headings and bold faced words was a great way to help me organize the information while reading.
- Using lists helped break up the text and made it easier to navigate through.
- Links to other websites. How great is it to not only be told about great resources, but have the link only a click away. The author is saving their reader time, effort and energy by not having to look it up on their own.
- Providing a youtube video to explain how to evaluate a website. A great way to appeal to the visual learner!
- Questions posed at the end of the blog. Engaging your readers and giving them a chance to have their voice heard is a great way to let other peoples' voices be heard. Questions tell the reader, "I appreciate you taking the time to read what I have to say, now let me hear what you have to say".
I thought this blog was very well done and an excellent example of a model blog for an online class. It was engaging and informative, two of the most crucial aspects to blogging, where you can't rely upon the face-to-face experience to get people to listen to what you have to say.
Nice job! That list serves as a good template on what to include in blog posts - thanks for the nice review.
