Do you want to be a blogger?

Recently my principal asked me to start a blog on our Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program at our school. I never say no, so I thought I would create a tutorial to present to our staff. Our blog will be hosted by myself and my class as we write about the produce we sample each week. We will eventually add each classroom as blog author's so that classes may enter information about the produce they try.

This PowerPoint will be presented to teachers so that they will have a better understanding of what a blog is and how to use one. They may want to start blogging about upcoming assignments, field trips, and events.

If I taught my sixth graders how to create and manage their own blog I would make sure that along with the 'how to' presentation they would also learn about acceptable behaviors, Netiquette, when working with any form of internet usage. Blogging is a powerful communication tool that can be misused if not monitored and presented well.

The sources at the end of the PowerPoint are interesting to read and explore. Some dive into the many types of blogs available and some ask you to think about why you want to blog and what you want to blog about.

  1. Carol,
Like yourself, I am very interested in starting a blog for the next school year. I would have it linked to my website and I make an incentive for those who actaully respond on it. What I would like to do is have the kids blog on current stories in sports. The main focus will be on sportsmanship. You would be surprised how many kids now a day struggle with it. Thank you for the blue print for next year.

  2. Nice tutorial Carol!! I have not been able to access any blogs in OPS. Do you know how to get around this.
Also, How did you get a power point onto the blog? I couldn't make it happen.
    You did a great job!

  3. Hey Kris,

I am not sure how I am going to do a blog at school yet but my principal will hopefully figure that out for me since she is the one that asked me to do it. If not,it will be under my own name and I will manage it from home. As for the PowerPoint loading, I had to go to Google Docs. I will email your school account with the instructions.
