Delicious...

This was my first visit to delicious.com and it was very eye opening. Being someone who transfers between multiple computers in a day I can see a lot of benefits to having an online bookmark collection, there are often times when I cannot remember the address of where I want to go but know that I have it bookmarked on my work or home computer but like now I am working on an altogether different computer. I do plan to start my own Delicious account just for this benefit, but that is not all that it has to offer. Delicious will also allow you to see other people’s bookmark collections, and you can become a “fan” of their collection if it is something you like it, then their list is ‘bookmarked’ to you list. Delicious will also let you know what sites are being added to the most accounts, kind of like when a search engine tells you what the popular searches of the day are.

Within Barb’s list I played around with the Web Quest selection, another cool benefit of Delicious is that it will sort your library of bookmarks by what they call tags; basically key words which help to identify what the saved websites relate to.

I decided that the Periodic Table/Element research Web Quest located at http://teacherweb.com/WQ/HighSchool/Elements/index.html is one that I can actually use in class. It is very similar to something which I have been doing for years, even some of the web resources that the quest directs students to are the same which I have been directing students to use. The only thing that I would change is to take out the use of search engines to find the material. In my experience when that is an option that is all that students will use and they will not seek out the answers on their own.

  1. I am definitely going to check out Delicious site because l use many computers too. In your last statement about taking out search engines. I disagree because students need to type in the right word choice or am I reading your statement wrong?

  2. I will have to check this site out. It sounds like a great way to organize and not have to worry about where you are as long as you have a computer.

  3. What a great idea!! I have not utilized 1/100 of the ideas and programs that technology has to offer on my computer. I am so forgetful with websites that are beneficial to myself and my classroom that being able to organize them in a way that is easy to access makes sense to me.
